Nearly 400 MACRO projects of renewables
are projected on the Natura2000 Network in Spanish territory.
A total of 391 MACRO projects of renewable energy violate Directive 92/43/EEC on the Conservation of Natural Habitats and of Wild Fauna and Flora.
The movement www.macrorenovablesno.org has prepared a document that compiles the most significant impacts affecting the Natura2000 Network in Spain.
This month, the European Parliament will hold a meeting of the Energy Council and Commission at which they plan to approve the Regulation and Directive COM222, where the new regulations that will regulate macro installations of renewable energy will be assessed and agreed.
The Natura 2000 Network was created and promoted in the European Union to preserve the natural, social and environmental values of areas with unique elements that could serve as areas for the conservation of biodiversity, in the face of the regression that was occurring in many of the countries that make it up. To act now by deregulating the projects to be installed in it, would be to go against the criteria that marked its creation.
The movement www.macrorenovablesno.org demands urgent planning and land use planning, as well as strategic studies in all the communities and in all the states of the Union. They insist on not continuing to install new macroprojects without first analyzing the values of each territory, thus avoiding irreparable damage. They demand that these studies should not be simplified when they affect Natura Network areas.
If this change of criteria were to occur in the EU, the Directives currently in force would not be respected, and the Natura 2000 Network, historical heritage, primary sectors, and the rural future of these countries would be harmed.
The movement www.macrorenovablesno.org is in favor of renewables, but NOT of the model of macro power plants that are being projected. In this sense, they call on all MEPs to oppose the approach of the Energy Council, which, arguing an "overriding public interest", facilitates the rapid implementation of these macro renewable industries. They emphasize that the interest and health of citizens should be valued above any economic interest.
From this movement they denounce that the big energy companies impose their criteria in the European Union, betting on the implementation of renewables on a MACRO scale, without taking into account the impacts they cause. The proposal of www.macrorenovablesno.org is a model that manages and distributes energy in a fair and equitable way through small energy communities.
